Mazda MX-5 Miata Makes World Record Books

Here at Mazda Gallery we're excited to share some the awesome news that, according to the Guinness World Book of Records, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is the most popular sports car in the world. The record wasn't based on something flimsy like a survey, but strictly on sales which solidifies the MX-5 Miata's place in history.

There is more good news too. As a car becomes more popular manufacturers tend to feel the need to keep making the car bigger and fancier, often moving away from what originally drew customers to the car. Mazda has announced they will be going the opposite direction and toning the Miata down for 2014. In one article, Hirotaka Kanazawa, Chief of Research and Development, says, "We will return to the original. It will be lightweight and the cost will be lightweight too. It will be easy to handle and fun to drive."1.

Unlike older Mazda MX-5 Miata installments, however, the upcoming variant will show notes of the new Takeri Concept styling language. What exactly does that mean? Think alluring undertones and a more attractive body. As for power, it's looking like Mazda will give the model a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with SkyActiv technology. SkyActiv will work alongside the new convertible variant's reduced, 2,200-lb weight to deliver excellent fuel-economy stats.

While we wait for the 2014 Mazda Miata, come into Mazda Gallery in Norwood, MA today and we can walk you through the car, schedule a test drive and even discuss financing.
